kayak sul Lake Powell !!!

ciao ragazzi,

in corso d'opera di organizzazione del nostro viaggio on the road in ottobre il mio nuovo pallino si chiama Lake Powell ( zona Page, per intenderci ) dove ho scoperto che si può niente di meno che attraversare stretti canyon scavati dal fiume affittando un Kayak !!! la cosa mi intrippa tanto da tenermi incollata al pc in una domenica pomeriggio di sole riminese!! qualcuno c'è stato e sa darmi qualche consiglio/racconto/informazione/opinione???

Ho fatto kayak sul fiume Colorado ma più a nord, zona Moab. Posso comunque consigliarti di farlo non sul Lake pPowell ma proprio sul fiume, ovvero dopo la diga. E' molto più bello avere attorno le pareti maestose del canyon che chiaramente sul lago non avresti, e poi avresti la possibilità di passare per Horseshoe Bend in kayak, deve essere uno spettacolo!

E se riesci c'è anche un signor Reflection Canyon che sarebbe bello da "kayakare" se non ci fosse acqua altissima... deve comunque essere spettacolare e concordo con il consiglio di Aquila!

Quello del lake Powell in Kayak è davvero un tour molto molto bello ed originale, congratulazioni !!!

- io non ho (ancora) fatto questo tipo di avventura ma mi hanno detto e consigliato la visita dei tributari Nord del Lake Powell ed in particolare la zona cosiddetta dell'Escalante Arm (il fiume Escalante che si getta nel Lake Powell).

Come vedi le "Marine" e le rampe di accesso sono tutte quasi tutte nella zona Sud nei pressi di Page, per cui ricordo di aver visto molti che magari fanno 1 settimana sul Lake Powell noleggiare una House Boat e poi portare a bordo con loro il kayak per avventurarsi nei meandri più nascosti. Anche questa è una modalità (costosa) per una vacanza sul lake Powell.

In alternativa ci si può far portare e ci si può far recuperare con il Water Taxi !!

ED ECCO UN ELENCO DI ALCUNI TOUR "OVERNIGHT" CHE RICHIEDONO DI RESTARE FUORI (ALMENO) PER 1 NOTTE (Campeggio)

What are some good overnight trips? How far are the canyons from Wahweap Marina? How long will it take to paddle?

LONE ROCK CANYON: 1 night, 4-8 miles paddling. Launch from Lone Rock Beach. Side canyons to explore, good beaches.

NAVAJO CANYON: 1 night. 2 nights if what to explore the canyon, 10-26 miles paddling. Launch from Antelope Point. Narrow canyon paddle with steep walls. 5 miles from launch to the mouth of Navajo Canyon. There is good camping on either shore. Making camp at the mouth, out and back day paddles are possible into Navajo Canyon. No place to get out of the kayak due to the steep canyon walls!

WARM CREEK BAY: 2-3 nights, 16-20 miles paddling. Launch from Wahweap or Stateline. Excellent beaches and interesting rock formations near Crosby Canyon but won't experience slot canyons in this bay. Go through the Castle Rock cut and turn left into Warm Creek Bay. Go west until Crosby Canyon, which has lots of nice camping areas. On the return trip, visit Wahweap Window.

LABYRINTH CANYON: 3-4 nights, 25-32 miles paddling, 7-19 miles paddling with water taxi. Launch from Wahweap or Antelope Point. 10-12 miles to Padre Point (water taxi drop off point). 3.5 miles into Labyrinth Canyon. Slot canyon hike at the end, good in spring and early summer. Plenty of great campsites.

FACE CANYON: 5-7 nights, 37-44 miles paddling. Water taxi recommended. A steep walled canyon about 6 miles up lake from Labyrinth and Padre Point. It is an 8 mile roundtrip paddle to go into the canyon. Camping available down the canyon.

WEST CANYON: 9-12 nights, 59-66 miles paddling. Water taxi recommended. Best hike on Lake Powell. 5-6 miles up lake from Face Canyon. 10 mile roundtrip paddle to go into the canyon. At the end there is an adventurous hike that takes about 4 hours roundtrip. Be prepared for wading/swimming through cold water. Camping available near the end of the canyon.

RAINBOW BRIDGE: 53 miles away! Water taxi required except for those with lots of experience and time. Very difficult to find camping spots. On the plus side, best slot canyons on the entire lake are nearby in Cathedral, Driftwood and Cascade Canyons.

ESCALANTE CANYON: More than 70 miles away, water taxi required.The most challenging camping conditions on the entire lake - most of the canyon has sheer cliffs.

grande Everett!!! mi hai messo una voglia matta di starci qualche giorno..cosa che purtroppo temo non sarà possibile x via della tabella di marcia.. ma voglio assolutamente una bella escursione in kayak!!!!

ti faccio sapere se scopro altro e sopratutto spero di arricchire la sezione diari con una bella esperienza al nostro ritorno!!

e CHISSA' come se la passano a CATHEDRAL IN THE DESERT altro mitico posto della zona Lake Powell, accessibile via lago...
